He is not always bad, but more often than not he is unreliable and doesn’t know what he is talking about, and tells stories about when your piece will be ready. Uses several obviously tried and true stories over and over and over and over again. Telling you whatever he needs to say to make you go away for another day or week or whatever.

Before I figured out the ring thing…..

I finally picked them up April 29, 2016 after he said “I’ll have them for you in a couple hours”. I simply said I’d wait. And I did. I wasn’t leaving without them, fixed or not.

They were mounted (not very well) but I paid and left. And came home to warn everyone else.

This review is about McBee’s Jewelry in Fayetteville, AR. This will be a long review, I think.

I have had three experiences with this establishment. I don’t like to admit my ignorance, but am willing to do so to save others at best a hassle and at worst lost or ill repaired jewelry.

I would stop by the shop usually once a week to check on the repair.

#1 Had a pair of earrings I wanted remounted. I was promised these within the next week. After 3 weeks, I paid for the remounting and was happy with the work.

#2 I had a small diamond come out of my wedding band and took it in to be fixed. This was also promised within the next week, as he had to order the stone. After 4 weeks, I paid for the repair. He kept going on and on about he had to “build up” the outside of the small stones on each side “to keep them from falling out again”. I kept looking at my ring, something was different. Figured it out: The stone he used as a replacement for my lost one was just a little smaller AND to keep this from being too obvious, he replaced the stone on the other side with the smaller version also. Thus the repeated “building up” story.

If you think you want to use this guy: take lots of good pictures of your jewelry, record every conversation with him. That way you have something to back you up should you need it.

#3 I took in another pair of earrings to be remounted. This was a pair similar to what he had done before. This was on February 2, 2016. The promised date on the receipt was for February 11, 2016. Now I know this was before Valentine’s Day, so didn’t really expect it to be ready, especially given his penchant for always being late.

For the short version, DO NOT USE this “jeweler”.

Several excuses used: mountings were on backorder, I’ll have them for you tomorrow, probably before noon, the prongs weren’t long enough, I need to build them up, I’ll have them for you tomorrow, probably before noon, I couldn’t “build them up right” I’m have another person “laser weld” them (is that even a real thing?), I’ll have them for you tomorrow, probably before noon (this is one of his favorites, and he told me this no less than 6 times).
