I bought a 39" Full HD tv on 12/6. I carefully put it into the car and carefully brought it home. It was DOA, screen would not turn on completely, and had what looked like colored fracture lines on it when turned on. I took it back, they tested, exchanged it for another one, then they tested the second one in the store, and it worked. After I got home, I found the packet with the power cord and leg screws missing. I had specifically asked if that packet was in the new box, while at the service counter, and was told it was. Before I arrived at the store for the third time, they found the packet which was left behind the counter on the floor when they repacked the box. After telling them I was not happy about all this inconvenience, they did give me a free two year warranty ($30 value). Not much comp for my extra 60 miles of driving. I hope that similar things have not happened to many others. Hopefully, it's a one off. The store manager was very apologetic about the incident.
This Best Buy is always good. Employees are helpful, but they will also leave you alone if you say that you don't want help. There is almost always someone close who works there if you have questions.
Now, Best Buy is a "must place to go" if you are in the market for most electronics. For example, you can read all you want about 4k TVs, and you should always definitely do your research, but Best Buy is a great, physical place to actually look at a wide variety of them. They also price match most large retailers like Amazon and Wal-Mart. They deliver to your house for free if you reach a certain price point, and, due to the nature of electronics, you can buy with confidence because you have a place to return any defective equipment to a local place vs dealing with the pains of shipping to an online store.
One can buy a nice stereo and CD system here, which I did, and also buy speakers, which I did, but one cannot get the cords, directions how, or system connected except by having to buy all the pieces and parts and tools to DIY! All those Geeks, and the customer is on their own. Huge regret purchasing system here without any support, and they act very condescending if you don't already know how to do all that.
Several associates politely ask if I need help, but aren’t too pushy. The phone cases are usually a mess but everything else is tidy. I had to send in a request for a new phone today with the Geek Squad desk and they’re also very helpful and kind.
As with anything, it saves to be knowledgeable. The customer service is good, however, they are still driven to sell, so I always recommend knowing where to look and understanding terms within the realm of what you are in the market for. Don't let an employee have too much of a one up on you, but use them to answer real questions because that is what they are paid to do.
Amazon, and in general a more globalized online market, is the best thing that has happened to Best Buy customers. The competition has forced Best Buy into delivering the same prices, however, it has the caveat of being the local brick-and-mortar place to experience electronics first hand. I'll be honest, years ago I would use Best Buy as a demo-place, then I'd go online for savings Best Buy was not initially offering.
Essentially, definitely, always consider Best Buy before pulling the trigger online because it offers a wide variety of mainstream electronics at a brick-and-mortar place with competing prices.
So far, after only a few hours, the last TV works great.
